Obituary of Joseph C. Gross
Age 99, of Morgan, died peacefully on May 10, 2016 at Southwoods Assisted Living Center in Titusville, PA, where he lived for the past four years. Joe was born June 1, 1916, the eldest son of Joseph F. and Olympia (Mouret) Gross. He graduated from Bridgeville High School in 1934 and worked at Universal Cyclops in Bridgeville. Joe married Christine Dernorsek of Sygan Hill in 1939. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943, serving as a French language interpreter. He was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of TEC Sergeant. Joe and Christine owned and operated an independent grocery store, Gross’ Market, in Morgan, PA for 22 years before retiring in 1977. Joe was an avid reader throughout his life and enjoyed working in his yard after retirement. Joe is survived by his sons Joseph (Kim) of Franklin, PA, Robert (Sandra) of Vero Beach, FL, Kenneth (Charlene) of Port Allegany, PA and Allen of Orlando, FL; as well as eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and Christine, his wife of 76 years, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Gross and Mildred (Bott) and five brothers, James, Louis, Theodore, William and Edward.
Family and friends received on Wednesday, May 25th from 5-8 PM at the Warchol Funeral Home Inc., 3060 Washington Pike Bridgeville (412.221.3333). A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 26th at 10 AM at Holy Child Parish, interment to follow at Melrose Cemetery.
