Obituary of Donald Franklin McKenzie Jr.

Age 56, of Pittsburgh, died on April 17, 2024, after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Cynthia L. (Barry) McKenzie and loving father of Alyssa McKenzie. Don is survived by his sisters Gloria Lasley and Rose McKenzie and brother Joseph Phillips; Son in law of Patricia Barry; Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Don proudly served his country as a demolition specialist in the U.S. Army. He had a long career with City of Pittsburgh Housing Authority, where he became Assistant Manager for Housing Development and built countless bonds with those in the community. Upon his stage 4 diagnosis with cancer on April 11, 2022, Don never gave up hope. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His family would like to thank everyone for the care and loving support through Don’s illness. Family and friends received to celebrate Don’s life, on Saturday, May 4, from 2 – 5 pm, at the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hillman Cancer Center.
