I remember Don making wonderful Christmas dinners. We would come home to Pittsburgh and arrive at the McKenzie house full of tremendous smells. After eating all the yummy food we would go into the living room and exchange gifts. Our tradition was to take our time and watch everyone open gifts one at a time. Don would always suggest to “speed it up”. He would laugh and say we all should open gifts at the same time. Of course my hubby would love that suggestion and they would both laugh and laugh. I also remember Don asking where the chocolate chip cookies were on our Christmas Cookie trays. Don, your laugh was contagious and sometimes mischievous. But always heart felt. I will miss you Don!

Don was the guy who always “knew a guy”! I remember talking about all different projects going on in our homes. Don always knew someone who could do the job “cheap”. He was a wealth of knowledge and was always ready to share! I will miss his advice and our long talks at family gatherings about anything and everything.

Many memories of Uncle Don come to mind: playing/teaching us his pool shark skills (aka bar rules). We loved when he would push us on the tire swing outside the McKenzie house or play basketball in the driveway. So many fond memories - we will miss you, Uncle Don!
Love,
Kayla, Christian, Jenna, Cheyenne, and Jamie

My uncle is and will always be the GOAT (greatest of all time)
He kept it simple but always kept it real! He also was always there! Free Fallin by Tom Petty that’s going to forever be our song. I love you and I’m grateful to be your niece Uncle Don

On behalf of the Dad's and Daughters of the Nicola Tribe of the YMCA Parent/Child program, we are all heart sick at the loss of one our fondest members. I recall Don to be the very best example of a wonderful Father who participated in every activity and devoted much love and attention to Alyssa and support for all of the Dads and Daughters. Don enjoyed every activity that involved spending time with Alyssa and was truly an inspiration to all who knew him in the Program. My memories of Don, Alyssa and all of the our Dads and Daughters are so strong and filled with great pride. After our time in the parent/child program, I had few meetings with Don, but all were filled with discussions of his pride and love for his family. It was truly an honor to know him. Our condolences to the family. Mike Lloyd
