Obituary of Cyril Rolling Allen, III

He was born on June 30, 1958 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Dr. Cyril Rolling Allen, Jr. and Edith Gordon Allen. Cyril was a graduate of South Fayette High School in McDonald, Pennsylvania in 1976. He received an athletic scholarship for football to the University of Michigan and played under coach Bo Schembechler from 1976-1981. He was notably the president of his fraternity, Trigon. Jay enlisted in the United States Army in 1981 and he was commissioned in March 1982 as a Second Lieutenant after graduating from Officer Candidate School. He began his career in Munster, Germany, where he served as a platoon leader and later as an operations officer. Upon returning to the United States, he was integral in coordinating logistics for multiple operations, including Operation Just Cause, and later deployed to Iraq for Operation’s Desert Shield and Desert Storm. After returning from deployment, he was stationed in New Orleans, Louisiana until moving to the Combined Arms Support Command in Fort Lee, Virginia. After promotion to Lieutenant Colonel, he was assigned to the United States Army European Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany, as their munitions expert. Jay returned to Ft. Lee, Virginia for his final tour of duty before retirement from the military in 2005 after 24 years of service. He continued to work for the military as an army civilian for 17 years and retired in September 2023. Jay is survived by his loving wife, Sabine D. Allen; his daughter Sarah Alexandria Skinner (Brian) and their daughter, Phoenix (4) and son, Malachi (3); his son Cyril Rolling Allen, IV (Larissa) and stepdaughter, Dee (17); siblings Karen Issari, David (Deborah) Allen, Gordon Allen, Amy Marcelle Allen (Timothy Shannon) and Charles (Kristyn) Allen; niece Samantha; nephews Phillip, John, Grant, Charles and Chase. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edith (1989) and Cyril (1992). Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Warchol Funeral Home in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. Visitation will be from 10am-11am, followed by burial with full military honors, in Melrose Cemetery.
