I’m so sad to hear of the passing of Gretchen, my sorority “grand big” I will always remember Gretchen as the life of the party, warm and fun - she always had everyone in the room laughing. May she rest in peace.

I met Gretchen and Karl at parties our daughter Emily and her husband Sean would host throughout the years. Although we had a big age gap we had a kindred connection through our shared interests in canning and gardening and the love of Calvin and Rooney, our grandchildren. Gretchen was a caregiver to Calvin when Emily went back to work and we saw over the years that our grandchildren had a deep love for her. Gretchen was one of the most vibrant, loving, fun people to be with and she lite up a room with her loving heart and big smile. Gretchen’s love of plants was shared with me a few years back when she kindly gave me a white peony plant. I will cherish its growth year after year and think of her with love. Gretchen will be missed by many, as she touched so many hearts and I feel blessed to have met and befriended her. Our deepest condolences and prayers to Karl, Anna and the families and friends that loved her.

Gretchen made an incredible impact in the hearts of all that knew her. I would be so excited when she would come over to the Christmann household for our Christmas party because I knew she would bring an uplifting energy and get everyone laughing, so naturally. She had a way to make everyone feel seen. I’m really going to miss her. My sincere condolences to her family, Karl, and all her friends.

I’m in shock, as I was with Dan. I enjoyed knowing Gretchen (as I did Dan and Anna) as a soccer player and friend. She was talented and a big asset to the team. I most remember one incident. After she moved on to high school, she came back and asked me if she could help with the team. I thought that would be great for her and the team. It was good for the team because they had seen her play and now she was giving them coaching and encouragement. After the first practice, as the kids left, she came over and said, “Oh Mr. Catizone…I never realized what we did to you.” I laughed, especially because she was never a problem, but a leader. But she saw a different perspective from the other side of the ball. She will be missed by all who knew her.
