Obituary of Thomas J. Hughan, Jr.
Thomas Hughan Jr., 81, of Bridgeville, PA, passed away on October 14th, 2023 peacefully with family by his side after a battle with a long illness. His courage and fighting spirit in facing life challenges was met with determination, moxie, and a warm smile. Tom was a hero and stayed strong until the end. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Tom was born in Bridgeville, PA and was a 1960 Graduate of Bridgeville High School and a 56-year member of the Iron Workers Local Union No. 3. Tom worked on many infrastructure projects throughout the Pittsburgh area. He often referred to himself as “The hands that built Pittsburgh.” He volunteered his time as a 52-year member of American Legion Bridgeville Post 54; 25 years as a Legion Commander. He was also a Veteran of the Army National Guard 1962-68. Tom was a lifetime Parishioner of the Holy Child Parish and longtime Usher.
Tom was a loving father and grandfather who had a wonderful sense of humor, leaving a lasting impression on those who knew him. Tom is survived by his daughter Amy (Mark) Beyerl; son Brian Hughan; granddaughter Mia Beyerl; and brother of Nancy Anderson. Tom was preceded in death by his wife Blanche (DeMark); his parents, Thomas and Dorothy Hughan; and his brother, Richard.
Friends received to celebrate Tom’s life on Thursday, October 19th from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm, at the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 20th at 10:00am at Holy Child Church of Corpus Christi Parish. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Bridgeville Historical Society.
