Obituary of Franklin "Tim" Emery

Age 81, of South Fayette Township, on December 22, 2022. Beloved husband of Joyce (Hudack) Emery; loving father of Jennifer Buckles and Rebecca (Michael) Colangelo; cherished grandfather of Michael Colangelo, Jr., Madalyn Colangelo, and Josalyn Adams; brother of Lee (Patty) Emery, Mark (the late Janice) Emery, Larry (Debbie) Emery and the late Jack (the late Barbara) Emery, and the late Robert Emery; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Tim was born on July 27, 1941, in Beaver, PA to the late Leland and Margaret (Haney) Emery. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Reserves; and completed his B.S degree (1974), his Master’s degree (1977), and his Ph.D. (1983) in electrical engineering, all from the University of Pittsburgh. He worked his entire 46-year career as an electrical engineer for Westinghouse (later, Siemens Westinghouse) Power Generation Corporation earning the title of Fellow Engineer in 2002. He also worked as a consultant for the U.S. Navy. Tim served as the President of IEEE Dielectrics and Insulation Society in 2001 and 2002. Dr. Emery has written over 35 technical technical papers on generator insulation and holds 26 U.S. patents for work in his field. He was an adjunct engineering professor at the University of Central Florida, CCAC in Pittsburgh, and other institutions. Tim was an avid runner who ran The Great Race each year in the city of Pittsburgh. He was a loving Pap, and his grandchildren will always remember making paper airplanes, lighting firecrackers, and throwing them off his deck. Family and friends received on Monday from 3-6 PM at the Warchol Funeral Home Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412.221.3333). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 1 PM at St. Barbara Church of Corpus Christi Parish (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). Memorials may be made to Gallagher Hospice.
