I served with Fr Rich on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70). He flew to Iowa to marry my wife and I in 1991 and think of him often. He introduced me to pizza with anchovies... Fr Rich told me once that he would rather do a funeral than a wedding because a weddings often ended in chaos. (I think he would be happy to see my wife and I are still together after 33 years.) He said a funeral is a sad moment but is really meant to be a celebration of a person's life. I have always hung on to that. Fr Rich touched a lot of people over many years of dedication and for that we should all celebrate.

I was stationed in Pearl Harbor Hawaii and attended daily Mass at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Chapel where Father Richard was stationed. I met my now husband of 35-years at daily Mass. My husband was stationed on a ship and I was on shore duty. Father Richard, married my husband and I at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Chapel on November 11, 1988. It was a very memorable day for all who attended. He even started the Mass 15-minutes late just to get under our skin and it worked. We were active in the Parish and learned so many things about our faith. Our favorite time was of course our wedding but also the annual Parish Picnic. I was in charge of the games for the kids. He kept us on our toes with jokes and took the Mass and liturgy very seriously. We remember one specific time where he stopped the Mass as a group of teenagers were talking. We are saddened to read of his passing but our comforted to know that he is free of pain and resting peacefully in the arms of God in his heavenly kingdom. Fondly, Mary & Frank Hammock

Since Father Yagesh left Holy Child, he was always on my mind. I called the diocese twice, but no public information was available. My heart was heavy for him and I kept him in my prayers since 2012. It was that year he agreed to marry my husband and I at Holy Child. He took the time to ask and understand why we were requesting to be married there. I was able to share how we came together to frequent mass there each week as we were dating and lived 70 miles from each other. He “bridged” us and our families and friends together that day. Each one of his homilies were so meaningful. I am forever grateful that he performed a beautiful ceremony for us. We were delighted in how many guests’ hearts were touched by his words that day. I am so glad the Holy Spirit led me to write him a thank you letter on our 10th wedding anniversary in May 2022. I sent it to the diocese in hopes that they would forward it to him wherever he was. To surprisingly find out in March 2023 that he passed a month after my letter was sent, reminds me that God really guides us in all that we do. May he Rest In Peace and be reunited with his mother and love ones in Heaven.

I served with Chaplain Yagesh in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. I was a Religious Program Specialist that served Navy Chaplains of all faiths. I can’t remember how many masses I have set up for, it was so many. It was a pleasure serving with him. We made many wonderful memories with outstanding people on our team. I pray for shalom and love to be with his family and friends.

I am so very sorry to hear the passing of Chaplain Yagesh. I served with him in Pearl Harbor Chapel, Honolulu for 4 years. It was an absolute pleasure serving with him. So kind, loving, and just super fun to be around. He also, baptized my daughter, who is now 35. We had so much fun and laughter was a daily event. My condolences go out to his family and loved ones. Certainly, gone to soon and now if God's hands and he's having the best time, I have no doubt....my heart and prayers are with you all. He will be missed, for sure.

We offer our deepest sympathy to the family of Father Richard C. Yagesh. We will always remember him fondly. We were asked to photograph the Installation Mass of Father Yagesh at Holy Child Parish when the original photographer was unable to attend the Installation Mass. Although we had never done anything like this before, we agreed to photograph this very, important Mass and the Reception for Father Yagesh. We had a photo book made of all the pictures of Father's Installation Mass and Reception. Although we are not professional photographers and have never done anything like this before, Father truly loved the book when we presented to him and was so happy to have this memory of his First Mass. Rest in Peace, Father Yagesh.

You have our deepest sympathies in the loss of Fr. Yagesh. Fr Yagesh will be remembered for all the wonderful things he did at Holy Child. He initiated the Resurrection Choir which I am a member, and I was so honored to sing at his Funeral. He also had the church painted and the beautiful Crucifix installed, and the Holy Spirit over Mary’s alter, which now has a statue of St. Joseph. I will always feel Fr. Yagesh”s presents here at Corpus Christi.

Our family was so saddened to hear that Fr. Yagesh has passed away. He was always so kind and patient with my children. He insisted that we move up front in the church so that the children could see everything. They had a million questions for him when they were preschoolers, and he answered them all. My mother also had a special place in her heart for him. She did not belong to our parish, but she was there frequently, and I know that she prayed for him daily. I’ll always remember a moment we shared when he was tasked with delivering the bad news about the closure of the school. He was heartbroken about it, and many people took out their anger on him. I took a moment to remind him that he was just the messenger and not the cause. He appreciated that so much. Our family was away on vacation last week, and we didn’t hear the news until we returned today. Coincidentally, we had been talking about how much we liked him while we were on vacation.
I am comforted to think of him being reunited with his beloved mother.
Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord, and may Your perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the love and mercy of God, rest in peace. Holy Mother Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us. Amen.

Father Yagesh will be missed by my husband and I. I was trying for the last 6 months to take him to dinner and I wish his health would of let us do that. We are members of Holy Child and loved him very much. May you and your Family find peace in knowing that he is in Gods loving arms. Also in knowing how loved he truly was.
