Obituary of Joseph Bryan Deep
88, of Upper St. Clair, died peacefully and much loved on February 7, 2014. Son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Deep; loving and devoted husband of 42 years to Holly (Gerlach); revered father of Cheryl, Matthew (Catherine), and Michael (Deana); joyous grandfather of Chelsea, Chance, Faith and Hope Miller, Yasmine, Gabrielle, Bryan, Joseph, and Amelia Deep; brother of Richard, Robert, Raymond, Ralph, Ronald, and Donald Deep, Janet David, and the late Helen, John, Fr. James, George Bryan, Paul Clarke, Joseph, and George Deep; and Uncle of numerous nieces and nephews; all of whom loved him and will miss him very much.
Joe was a long-standing and active member of St. George Orthodox Church in Bridgeville. He proudly served his country as a radar and radio specialist in the U.S. Air Force from 1944-1946 and in the reserves from 1946-1949. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1951 with a degree in electrical engineering, the first member of his large family to earn a college degree.
He was known for his gentle, thoughtful manner, his keen intelligence and his quick wit. His family was ever and always the most important part of his life. His grandchildren will miss his welcoming lap, and we will all miss his caring hands, protective hugs and huge heart. Dearest husband, father and grandfather, “You live on in all who love you.â€
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, 2-8 p.m. (Trisagion service at 7 p.m.), at the WARCHOL FUNERAL HOME INC., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333). A second Trisagion service will be held Monday, February 10, at 9:30 a.m. at WARCHOL FUNERAL HOME and a funeral service at 10 a.m. at St. George Orthodox Church, Bridgeville. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Joe’s memory to the St. George Orthodox Church Building Fund, 610 Dewey Ave., Bridgeville, PA 15017.
