On behalf of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and the AACN Certification Corporation I would like to express our condolences. So many of our staff and volunteers over the years have been privileged to know and love Sandy. Her dedication to and passion for patient safety was an inspiration to all, and she served as a role model, particularly for nurses new to the world of professional certification. Her outgoing personality and infectious enthusiasm drew others to her like a magnet, making everyone feel welcome and valued members of any initiative. Her unquenchable desire to learn more in order to refine and continuously improve her certification programs was always evident. Over the years I attended countless meetings with Sandy; seeing her always brought a smile to my face because her attitude was relentlessly positive. She will be sorely missed by all of her nursing colleagues. May perpetual light shine upon her.

I knew Sandy through Camp Raising Spirits. She was always the go-to person for a lot of us volunteers. She was always fun and funny and put her heart and soul into making the Camp experience a memorable one. She will be dearly missed by all. Rest easy, my friend. We’ll take it from here.

Sandy was once in a lifetime person. I’m so grateful I was able to know her through our mutual connection of ABNS. Sandy was always the first person who greeted me (with a hug and a kiss) and the last person I would seek out to say goodbye before we left the meeting to go our separate ways. She will be so missed at our meetings and the upcoming meeting in March will have a void. I will miss her tremendously.

Dear Joe and Family
I am so very much saddened by this news. Sandy was one of the first people that I met when I started going to ABNS meetings - she was my assigned mentor - and we became fast friends. She was one of the most compassionate and caring people that I have ever met. She was a strategic thinker and an expert in her field. I learned so much from her mentoring and leadership. She loved to share stories and we talked a lot about our experiences and our families and about Canada - and loved to laugh about speaking French. She wanted to come visit and we talked about coming up to Ottawa and spending time together. Despite being far from each other, we were friends and I will always cherish this. Joe, please know how much we love you too. I found this quote that I feel describes Sandy so well: "It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving." (Mother Theresa). Sandy always gave to others with so much love! My thoughts and prayers are with you Joe, and with your family.
