Obituary of Randolph S. Fowler
Fowler
Randolph S.
Age 66, of Champion, PA, formerly of Upper St. Clair, PA, on November 24, 2017. Husband to Joyce (Bumbera) Fowler, father to Randi Bick, Jennifer (John) Kurtz, and Michael Fowler. Loving Poppop to Cassandra Fowler, Ashley Black, Tyler Kurtz and Riley Kurtz. Son to Joyce (Robinette) and the late Earl Richard Fowler and brother to Rhonda (Mark) Harris and the late Roy Fowler. Son-in-law to Vera (Barto) Bumbera and brother-in-law to Gloria (Dave) Howell. Randy graduated from Plum High School in 1969. He was a member of the Corps of Cadets at Virginia Tech and finished his degree at the University of Pittsburgh. He loved his Hokies and Panthers, and made sure everyone knew he had no love for Penn State. Randy was a member of Delta Sigma Pi National Business Fraternity, a Shriner, a member of the Scottish Rite, and a Master Mason at Plum Creek – Monroeville Lodge #79. He retired from AT&T, worked for NASA, and taught at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Business. Randy was a visionary in the telecommunications industry. He was an avid basketball fan - he went undefeated against his grandsons and always just knew he could dunk on Dr. J if he ever got the chance. As both a dad and a grandfather, he was active in the YMCA Parent Child programs as the great Chief Big Cayuga and remained involved with the YMCA for most of his life. He hated cats but loved all of his granddogs. He loved to cook for others and eat good food and had recently perfected homemade boursin and pate, but despised whoever came up with the idea of pineapple and ham together. Randy knew that behind every child’s ear was a quarter that was just waiting to be magically pulled out. He never missed any of his kids’ and grandkids’ events if he could help it – no football game, school play, musical or band concert was overlooked. Nothing made him happier or more proud than his children and grandchildren. He was a baby whisperer, a healer of wounds, a counter of ticklish ribs, and a lifelong hide and seeker. He loved to hold court and tell stories and jokes – most of them the same that he had been telling since the 1970s. Randy was a Living Legend – an amazing husband and dad, the best Poppop, and a wonderful friend. He made everyone feel like they were a part of his family, and knew that every day was another day of Challenge and Opportunity. Friends received Saturday and Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 PM, at the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333). A Funeral Service will be held Monday, 11 AM, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Upper St. Clair (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). View and add condolences at: www.warcholfuneralhome.com
