Obituary of Joseph Montecalvo
Joseph Montecalvo died peacefully at his home surrounded by loving family members on February 15, 2017 at age 90 in Bridgeville Pennsylvania. He joins his sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Christine, in Heaven. He was the son of the late Eugene and Mary (Terenzi). He is survived by loving daughters Mary Ellen Ferri, Deborah Maguire (Edward), Joan Migliori (Richard) and sons, David (Nicole) and Joseph Jr. (Laura); sister Gloria Resendes, 10 adoring grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Joe loved his family and their love and achievements were a great source of pride for him. Born December 24, 1926 in Providence, Rhode Island, he graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and started his early career at age 19 with John Hancock Financial Company, now the U.S. unit of Manulife. Joe received his early specialized training from The John Hancock Institute and became a Series 7 license holder, registered representative and staff manager. He was a lifetime member of the National Association of Life Underwriters and after 40 years of service, retired as a licensed financial advisor at age 74. He remained a sought after trusted financial and insurance adviser to his clients and family. During his career, Joe received numerous awards and in addition to his career achievements, he served the Knights of Columbus for 15 years and also served, for 25 years, as the Sergeant of Arms and Treasurer for the Cranston Rhode Island chapter for the Rotary Club. Through his dedicated service to the Rotarians, he received the Paul Harris Rotarian Award. Joseph was well known for his humor, love of cooking, and fondness for Little Rhody (Rhode Island). When he wasn’t traveling to visit his children and grandchildren in California, Minnesota and Pennsylvania, Joe traveled the east coast from Maine to Florida.
Joe and Chris always managed to keep Newport and Narragansett Rhode Island as their favorite east coast destination. As a young boy, Joseph trained as a concert pianist and continued to play throughout his life. He played for family at his 90th birthday party and although his eyesight dimmed, he committed his Broadway tunes to memory to continue to entertain family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of family, expert financial knowledge, pride for his favorite New England Sports teams and his strong character and integrity that will be his enduring legacy. Family and friends received Sunday from 1-4 PM at the Warchol Funeral Home Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412.221.3333), where a Blessing Service will be held on Monday at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 50 Moffett Street Pittsburgh, PA 15243.
