Obituary of Marie Sylvia Gillis
Marie Sylvia Gillis passed on suddenly September 22, 2016. A native of Bridgeville, she is survived by her loving husband Daniel Gillis of 54 years (together 60 years and never apart), her son Michael (Lori) Gillis, grandson Jacob Gillis, sister Anita (William) Procasky and a large scattered family.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, William V. and Theresa (Federoff) Barzan and sister, Kathleen Konkus. Marie, known to her family as Mary, earned an Associate's Degree from Robert Morris College, and prior to marriage worked as a secretary at ALCOA's real estate department.
Among her many interests were bowling, playing piano, singing, card playing and traveling to Ocean City, Maryland to reduce the blue crab population.
Marie and Dan enjoyed traveling extensively to the Caribbean and other favored destinations such as Bermuda and winters in southern Florida. They also visited Rome, London, Munich and Zermatt, Switzerland. They shared many more memories from New York City, where the two enjoyed over 20 Broadway shows.
Marie was a fantastic cook who enjoyed preparing Thanksgiving dinners for her extended family, a tradition that she happily took over from her mother, who was also an amazing cook.
Marie was a 61 year member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, and in lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Church, The Alzheimer's Association, or a charity of choice. Viewing and interment will be private.
