I am deeply saddened in learning about Mr. Speca’s passing. I offer my condolences to Mrs. Speca, Ben, Michael, Steven, and the entire Speca family.
As a youngster growing-up, with my second family on Critchfield, I have many fond memories of Big Ben, as well as some frightful ones (i.e. getting into trouble). Mr. Speca was a devoted father, whether coaching, playing, or breaking-up sibling rivalries, he was always there for the boys. I’ll always remember the countless hours of backyard football, wiffle-ball, hoops, the winter ice rink, the tree house, little league/ BFA, and even the few times Mr. Speca had taken me to St. Clair ER. Big Ben provided for his family, and in turn, with my friendships with the boys, my experience growing-up was all the better.
I last saw Big Ben at a neighborhood picnic a few years back. We chatted about life, current events, etc… Before strolling home for the evening with Mrs. Speca, Big Ben shared a kind and meaningful comment with me that was a testament to his character. I will never forget his words.
Mr. Speca will always be remembered as an outstanding man – a father, grandfather, teacher, coach, neighbor and friend – the many ways he shared in the lives of others.

I have fond memories as a kid playing football for Mr Speca. He was teaching much more than a game and he reinforced those life lessons teaching construction to me as a young man. God bless Mr Speca.
