Obituary of Benjamin Speca

Benjamin “Ben” Speca, age 75, of Bridgeville, PA, on May 16th passed away peacefully with family by his side. Son of the late Joseph and Caterina (Balestra) Speca. Beloved and wonderful husband of 50 years to Eugenia (Cairns) Speca, devoted father to Ben (Kulapa), Dr. Michael (Carrie), and Dr. Steven (Lindsay) Speca. Proud Pap to Mikey, Lilah, Anthony, Daniel, Gabriel, and Olivia Speca. Loving brother of Angelo (Laverne) Speca, Emma (Dave) Webb, and the late Agnes Webber and Maxine (John) Recchio. Ben is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and good friends Ben was a graduate of Carnegie High School and West Liberty College where he starred in football. He went on to teach in the Chartiers Valley School district for many years. Most of his teaching career was spent in the middle school, where he coached multiple sports, most notably football, compiling an impressive winning percentage. He touched many lives and gave of himself always. Ben was often a man of few words, but was always there in times of need. He defined the meaning of hard work. He loved teaching and coaching the students. He loved his fellow teachers and more recently his coworkers at Valley Brook Country Club. His dedication to his family is an inspiration to his children and grandchildren alike. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, 7-9 PM and on Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 AM at Holy Child Parish. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bridgeville Area Food Bank, mailed to or dropped off at the Bethany Church office 740 Washington Ave, Bridgeville, PA 15017. Checks made payable to Bridgeville Area Food Bank.
