LESLIE HOWARD
Passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 3, 2016, at age 64. Born January 11, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Gladys E. Chappel and the late Howard W. Chappel. He is survived by siblings Kathy Kunde (Chuck), Donna Wik (Mark), Bill Chappel (Sandy), Deborah Kaucic (Jeff), and joins the late Donna Louise Chappel. He also leaves behind his beloved dog Gertie, a host of loving nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins, as well as a family of friends too numerous to list. He was a graduate of Upper St. Clair High School and the University of Pittsburgh. For 35 years, Les lived in Northern Virginia and was a dedicated employee of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. He was an avid traveler and visited 47 U.S. States and numerous countries on four continents. For many years, he also enjoyed attending the Westminster Dog Show. Les’ interests were diverse, including U.S. and World History, politics, Pittsburgh sports, cooking, gardening and watching reruns of Seinfeld and I Love Lucy. He was known to many as the family historian and the “grammar police." Les’ enthusiasm for his loved ones’ birthdays and sending special cards will be missed by all. Those closest to Les will remember him as the most loyal and devoted friend and family member. Family and friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the Warchol Funeral Home Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412.221.3333), where a service will be held on Saturday at Noon. Interment to follow in Melrose Cemetery. To honor his legacy, in lieu of flowers, please send donations to any of the many charities Les humbly gave to on a monthly basis, including: no kill animal shelters, St. Jude, Western PA Conservancy, Mario Lemieux Foundation, Smile Train and World Wildlife Fund.
