Obituary of Eugene Coleman Ney

Eugene Coleman Ney, M.D. Loving husband and father, Eugene Coleman Ney, M.D., 90, a long-time resident of Upper St. Clair, PA, was born on September 14, 1924, in Wheeling, WV to Coleman and Gertrude (Hoelsche) Ney. A graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic, Dr. Ney continued his studies at Linsly Academy (Wheeling, WV), and he graduated with a bachelor of science in metallurgical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. After graduation from the University of Pittsburgh, he served as an instructor of Physics under the mentoring of emeritus Professor St. Peter, and maintained the seismograph located in the Cathedral of Learning sub-basement. Dr. Ney completed a Master's of Science degree in Anatomy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and earned a medical degree from the University of Kansas. Dr. Ney served an internship at Buffalo General Hospital (Buffalo, NY) and completed a residency in general surgery at the Veteran's Administration Hospital and Allegheny General Hospital both of which in Pittsburgh, PA Dr. Ney's professional experience included service on the staff of Central Medical Pavilion; Kane Hospital located in Scott Township, PA, and provided medical services to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Additionally, he served as Chief Medical Officer of the Pittsburgh Military Entrance Processing Station. Joshua Perper, M.D., former Allegheny County Coroner was a friend and colleague of Dr. Ney's. He is a member of the Allegheny County Medical Society. Dr. Ney was licensed to practice medicine in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kansas, and California. A prolific reader, Dr. Ney greatly enjoyed swimming, snorkeling, fishing and sailing with his beloved wife and children in the waters off Key West. He was a long-time parishioner of Holy Child Parish, Bridgeville, PA. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 64 years Diana Freeble Ney, Ph.D., CRNP, sons Eugene C. Ney, Jr. Ph.D., (Upper St. Clair) and John K. Ney DMD (and wife Amy) of Zanesville, Ohio and a daughter Barbara A. Ney of Westville, NJ. Additionally, five grandchildren survive him: Julia, Michael, Barbara, Mary and Katherine Fisher all of Westville NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Barbara Church, 45 Prestley Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017. Everyone please meet at church. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1685 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003. Arrangements entrusted to the Warchol Funeral Home Inc., 3060 Washington Pike Bridgeville (412-221-3333). In lieu of flowers, Dr. Ney's family suggests donations be made in his memory to Holy Child Parish, 212 Station St, Bridgeville, PA 15017. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Barbara Church, 45 Prestley Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017. Everyone please meet at church. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1685 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003.
