Obituary of Maude Long

Maude Estella "KATE" (Kelly) Long, 93, formerly of Somerset died May 6, 2013, at Asbury Heights, Pittsburgh. She was preceded in death by parents William F. and Mary (Sanner) Kelly, husband Eldon V. Long and daughter Elaine Judson, brothers Conrad, Eldred, Jay, Ralph, Dave, Warren and Bernard; sisters, Corrine Howard and Martha Kelly. She is survived by son, Lynn (Joan) Long, daughter, Hope (David) Tauch and son-in-law David Judson. Grandchildren: David (Lori) Long, Christopher (Cindy) Long, Beth (Dan) Newcomb, Tania (Paul) Brungard, Adrienne (Will) Duckett, Jonathan (Charity) Judson, Michael (Jil) Tauch and Matthew Tauch, fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Kate was born Oct. 15, 1919 in Rockwood, Pa., moved to Somerset, married in 1940 and worked at Stairs Pizza and the First United Methodist Church prior to moving to Reidsville, North Carolina where she trained to be a health care worker. She was active in the Christian and Missionary Alliance churches in NC and later in Mechanicsburg, PA. She enjoyed knitting, gardening and volunteering. She was known for her baking and numerous cookie trays she distributed to family and friends. A family burial service will be held Saturday May 18 at 1:30 pm, St. John"s Cemetery, Somerset, followed by a 2:30 p.m. Memorial Service at the First United Methodist Church, 149 W. Patriot St., Somerset. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to ViaQuest Hospice, 610 Park Ave., Monongahela, Pa. 15063; the Association for the Blind or to a church or charity of your choosing.
