Obituary of Kay Jean Gresh
Kay Jean Gresh, 86, formerly of Lancaster Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully Friday, November 15 at Friendship Village in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Arthur J. Gresh, with whom she celebrated 62 years of marriage on October 27. She was born April 13,1938 in New Eagle, the daughter of Alfred E. and Elizabeth Jackson Gillingham, sister to the late Sturgis Albert Gillingham. Kay was a 1956 graduate of Monongahela High School. Kay’s focus was on her family and being a homemaker, but she balanced this with various bookkeeping and office jobs. In addition, she was active in the community serving as PTA President, Den Mother, Lancaster Historic Walking Tour Guide and worked in local politics for over 30 years. Kay was formerly a member at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Lititz Pennsylvania and active in the Red Hat Society. Kay loved hosting picnics and holiday parties for friends and family. Guests were always greeted with a big hello and a bright smile. For sleepovers her mounds of pancakes were whipped up without a fuss and served to loved ones and guests until they had their fill. Her pies, cookies, and various recipes are still shared and made by her loved ones to this day. Kay enjoyed traveling and spending time with her four grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Arthur, Kay is survived by her two sons: Arthur J. Gresh Jr and wife Judith, of Mazama, Washington; John S. Gresh and wife Kari, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and her four grandchildren: Anna, Maxwell, Csilla, and Zsofia. Kay was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and mother-in-law. She was a compassionate and eternally optimistic person and was a close friend to many people. She was a desert flower; you could plant her anywhere and she would surely bloom. Kay will be fondly remembered.
