Obituary of Beverley Ann (Etter) Abel
Beverley Ann (Etter) Abel, 92, of South Fayette, formerly of Scott Twp, Pa., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024.
Born May 9, 1932, in Indianapolis, Ind., she was the daughter of William and Mary (Faires) Etter.
In 1950, Beverley graduated as her class valedictorian from Sacred Heart High School in Indianapolis. Afterward, she graduated from St. Francis University’s Nursing School in 1952.
A couple years after college, Beverley married the love of her life, her late husband Richard S. Abel, on April 15, 1954.
Beverley traveled to England to marry Richard as he served in the U.S. Air Force. They lived there for two years, before the couple returned to Indiana and eventually settled in the Pittsburgh area.
Following Richard’s honorable discharge, Beverley returned to serving as a registered nurse for more than 40 years in both Indiana and Pennsylvania.
Beverley belonged to the Catholic Church, and she also enjoyed reading and the outdoors. Even in her later years, Beverley loved sitting on her porch, preferably surrounded by family.
Beverley had a great love for her family. In their presence, she glowed with a big smile and easily fell into fits of laughter and joy.
In addition to her parents and husband, Beverley is preceded in death by one brother-in-law John Guyant and one sister-in-law Marty.
Beverley is survived by her children, Dr. Ann (Abel) Spungen and her husband, Steven, Dr. Deborah Abel, Cynthia Robinson, Joan Westphal, Stephen Abel and his wife, Carla, and Ed Abel and his wife, Carol; her grandchildren, Sarah (Spungen) Mycek, and her husband William, Miriam (Spungen) Philmon and her husband Gregory, Joanah (Abel) Bodero and her husband Darwin, Heather (Scanga) Morris and her husband Richard, Paul Scanga and his wife Franchesca, Angela Robinson, Amanda (Robinson) Tolbert and her husband Eric, Nicholas Westphal and his wife Kristy, Andrew Westphal and his wife Brie, Natalie Westphal and her partner Blake, Matthew Westphal, Stephen Abel and his wife Casey, Zachary Abel and his wife Courtney, Spencer Abel and his wife Kirsten, Blake Abel and his fiance Jillian, Caitlin (Abel) Bottiger and her husband Nathan, and Nathan Abel; and 24 great-grandchildren with three on the way.
Beverley is additionally survived by her siblings, Mary Guyant and William “Bill” Etter; as well as 17 nieces and nephews along with their families.
Friends and family will be received from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Warchol Funeral Home, 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, Pa., 15017.
A Blessing Service will take place at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by her burial at 11 a.m. alongside Richard at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
