Obituary of Joy Lorraine Penderville

Joy Lorraine Penderville (Ufford), of McDonald, passed away peacefully with her beloved family nearby on Sunday, August 25, 2024 at the age of 91. Joy was born on February 15, 1933, in Waltham, Massachusetts, and was one of two children of the late Edward and Helen Mae (Shaw) Ufford. After many attempts (the last one finally successful) to get her to go out on a date, she married John (Jack) H. Penderville, who died on May 16, 2019. They were married for 63 years, building their home, family, and community in McDonald. Mrs. Penderville worked as a flight attendant for TWA and was a member of TWA Clipped Wings. In addition, she was an executive secretary at the Elliott Company. She was a devoted lifetime member of McDonald Presbyterian Church, where she sang in the choir, played in the bell choir, and served as secretary, organist, and as a Sunday School teacher, passing God’s love on to the next generation. She also volunteered for many years for Meals on Wheels. Joy had an endless love for music, and was an impressive pianist and organist. She also enjoyed knitting – making beautiful sweaters and afghans for her children and grandchildren – playing cards (where she always inexplicably beat everyone), and building puzzles. She was a vociferous reader and never missed a special occasion or chance to remind others how much she loved them by sending thoughtful cards. Her family was the focus and greatest joy of her life, and she loved every one of her children and grandchildren deeply. Surviving Joy are her four children, John Penderville, James Penderville (Kristi), Judy Lombardo (Fred), and Jennifer Cobble (Terry). Also surviving are her eight grandchildren, who she doted on constantly: J.T. Penderville (Alyssa), Jamie Penderville (Darren), Joshua Penderville (Molly), Patrick Penderville (Raquel), Brian Lombardo (Patrick), Benjamin Lombardo (Rachel), Brendan Cobble (Madeline), and Nicholas Cobble (Caroline), as well as two great-granddaughters, Jacey Harn and Alice Penderville. She also had many nieces and nephews that she adored. In addition to Jack and her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Lois. Friends will be received on Wednesday, August 28, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm, at Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333). Additional viewing Thursday morning in church from 8:30 – 9:30 am. A Christian funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 29, at 9:30 am, at McDonald Presbyterian Church, with interment to follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township, where she will rest forever with Jack. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to McDonald Presbyterian Church.
