Obituary of Judith Ann (Calgaro) Weddell

Judith Weddell, of Bethel Park, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. Wife of the late Howard Weddell; beloved mother of Scott Weddell; also survived by her brother Robert Calgaro, nieces Annette Calgaro, Sandra Calgaro, and Robin Walker, also three great nieces. Judy graduated from California University and earned her master’s at the University of Pittsburgh. She taught English at Mt. Lebanon High School and especially enjoyed her Science Fiction and Fantasy class. After retirement, Judy worked with education students at Robert Morris University. A voracious reader, Judy’s favorite book was Fahrenheit 451. She met Ray Bradbury after noticing an unauthorized edit in a subsequent edition and he autographed copies of the book for her and her students. Judy was a member of the Harmony Singers and never missed a musical in the Cultural District. Judy wore bold colorful clothing and enormous earrings – the Thanksgiving turkey earrings were legendary. She was a warm, generous, funny person who dearly loved her son Scott. Arrangements entrusted to the Warchol Funeral Home Inc. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the animal charity of the donor’s choice.
