Obituary of Howard C. "Mac" McCracken, Jr.

Age 94, of Scott Twp., died on May 7, 2024. Mr. McCracken was a retired Chartiers Valley School District math teacher and guidance counselor. He was a graduate of New Castle High School, served in the U.S, Navy after which he earned his bachelor’s degree at Westminster College, New Wilmington. He received his master’s degree in counseling from the University of Pittsburgh. His career began as a mathematics teacher at Bridgeville High School in 1953. He retired as a Chartiers Valley High School guidance counselor in 1992. Mr. McCracken was a member of the Chartiers Valley Federation of Teachers and a member of the Allegheny County Counselors Association. He is the beloved husband of the late Mary E. (McCoy) McCracken, loving father of Robert J. (Lisa) McCracken and James “Jay” R. (Jo) McCracken, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Friends received Thursday, May 9, from 3 – 6 pm, at the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Andrew Carnegie Free Library, 300 Beechwood Ave., Carnegie, PA 15106.
