Obituary of Charles "Chuck" Anthony Muggar

Charles Anthony Muggar August 25, 1938 – March 10, 2024 Charles (Chuck) Muggar (85) passed away peacefully in the home that he built in Sturgeon. He was already greeted in heaven by his parents, Anthony George and Helen Bugay Muggar. Surviving are his sister, Julia Danjou of Silverton, CO, and brother, Anthony (Robin) Muggar of McDonald, PA. Chuck is survived by his one love, his high school sweetheart, Anita (Gayle) Sparkenbaugh, to which he was married for 64 years. He was a loving father of four daughters, Cheryl (John) Leghorn, Sharon (Dean) Confortini, Sandra Ireson, and Lisa (Dan) Huesman. He leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Dereka (Derek) Ridgway, Lauren (Anthony) Di Paolo, Lynsi (Zac) Kalish, Brandi (Darryll) Gardner, Joe Confortini, Erin Confortini, Valerie Leghorn, Elizabeth Leghorn, Jadon Leghorn, Heather Huesman, and Cal Huesman. He was also very proud of his 10 great grandchildren. Chuck loved family gatherings at their home. Their house was filled with family at the holidays or summer picnics, complete with rambunctious children, plenty of home cooked meals, laughter and joy. He and his family attended Noblestown United Presbyterian Church for over 60 years which created a foundation of faith and love for his family. Chuck was a veteran, serving in the Army from 1957 to 1963. He retired after 40 years working in the boiler room at Aliquippa’s J&L Steel plant. After retirement, he and Gayle volunteered delivering Meals-on-Wheels and also volunteered at the West Allegheny Food Pantry. Chuck was often seen with his shovel and digging in his garden. He was proud of his vegetables and there wasn’t a seed he didn’t try growing. His vegetables were served daily and were shared amongst his neighbors. He was known in Sturgeon for his corner vegetable stand with his hand-written sign stating to just “put money in bowl”. When he wasn’t gardening or fixing stuff around the house, he loved hunting and fishing with family and friends or taking Gayle in his canoe out on the water. He would bring home a bucket of blue gill and make deep fried breaded fish. His children ate them faster than he could fry them. Another favorite pastime was watching the birds feed in his yard, saving a variety of scraps for the birds. Before disposing of any food, Chuck would say, “Don’t throw that away, leave it for the birds”. There were many birds flying off very happy after eating pizza crusts, cheese crackers, and potato chips. Chuck also enjoyed just getting in the car and taking a ride, pointing out different scenery and wildlife in the fields, then making turns on unfamiliar roads, just to “see where they come out”. There were many rides that should have only taken 15 minutes, but his would take much longer as he discovered those new roads. Now, with his fishing gear in tow, Chuck is enjoying the discovery of new roads in heaven. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Noblestown United Presbyterian Church in the name of Charles Muggar. Those wanting to pay respects to Chuck’s family can join them at a viewing on Friday, March 15, 2024, from 2pm – 4pm and 6pm – 8pm, at the Warchol Funeral Home Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, PA.
