Obituary of John Szyjko, Jr.

Age 72, of Macon, GA, formerly of Bridgeville, on November 5, 2023. He was born on February 18, 1951, in Pittsburgh. A son of the late John and Margaret (Holeva) Szyjko, Sr. John grew up in Bridgeville, where he was a member of the former St. Agatha Church and served as an altar boy. While attending high school, he worked as a store photographer for Joseph Hornes Co. and became an advisor for an award-winning Junior Achievement group. John attended the Univ. of Pittsburgh, where he studied electrical engineering and later became an electrical engineering manager and IT manager. One of his true passions was restoring old cars, and building hot rods. In fact, one of his cars won “Best of Show” in a national car show and was featured in Hot Rod Magazine. Another of John’s passions was woodworking. He could do anything, from remodeling to building custom furniture. In the last few years, he enjoyed collecting model trains. John is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Lincoln) Szyjko, his two loving sisters, Susan (Philip) Fiumara and Karen (Jeff) Hazard, also his two fur babies, Molly and Abby. He is also survived by his cousin, Barbara Barnhart and many other loving cousins. John was a loving and supportive husband, who had a number of health challenges throughout his life, but he never complained. He was nicknamed “the Energizer Bunny”, because he just kept going. Friends received Friday, November 10, from noon – 1 pm, at the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, November 10, at 1:30 pm, at Holy Child Church of Corpus Christi Parish, 212 Station St., Bridgeville.
