Obituary of Robert "Bob" Rank

Rank Robert “Bob” Lifelong SF resident died May 21, 2023 at the age of 93. Born in Sturgeon on December 29, 1929, the son of Gaston and Helen Rank. Bob was President of the Class of 1947 at South Fayette, where he met the love of his life, his wife of 72 years, Kathleen Taucher. Proud father of Alan (Carol) Rank, Lynn Ann Fink and Lori (Mike) Abodeely. Adored Pappy of grandchildren Jennifer Polasky, Kimberly (Andrew) Nickolas, Bobby (Sharon) Rank, Valerie (Greg) Spanovich & Mark (Marissa) Fink, and 14 great grandchildren who brought great joy to his life. Bob served in the US Army and was stationed in Japan as a Corporal MP during the Korean War. When being transferred from basic training in the Midwest to Washington DC, his train passed through his hometown of Sturgeon, where friends, family and neighbors lined the tracks to wave him on to his next assignment. Bob devoted his entire life to being a volunteer fireman. From his teens, he was active in the Sturgeon VFD, where his father was a founding member. Bob was the last living founder of Oak Ridge VFD, where he served as President and Captain for many decades. He remained active into his late 80s running the annual fund drive. Bob and Kay were world travelers and visited all 50 states. They traveled to every continent except for Africa. Cruising was one of their favorites, taking more than 30 following his retirement in 1989. Bob was an insurance agent for MetLife for 37 years. He continued to help his policy holders, servicing their claims into his nineties. Friends received Tuesday, from 4-8 pm, at the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 26, at 11 am, at Oak Ridge Fire Hall, South Fayette Twp. Burial with full Military Honors will be held Tuesday, June 27, at 10:30 am, at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Twp.
