Obituary of Louis Philip Metzger
Louis P. Metzger, 97, of Celebration Villa at Lakemont Farms, formerly of Collier Township, passed peacefully on Friday, September 9, 2022, at Genesis Bridgeville Rehabilitation & Care Center. He was born on August 10, 1925, in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late John and Mary Metzger.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 73 years, Louise Geinzer Metzger. Loving father to Diane (Pete) Wildman, Carol (Randy) Gratchick, Christine (Jeff) McDanel, John (Tammy) Metzger, Raymond Metzger, and Marie (Brian) Trossman; also surviving are his 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the US Navy on the USS Gilmer. Lou later worked for Horix Manufacturing, starting in their plant and retiring, 30 years later as their Assistant Service Manager. After his retirement he enjoyed tending to his yard, fixing anything that needed to be repaired, playing cards and his favorite dice game, and most importantly spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, September 15 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Warchol Funeral Home, 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, PA 15017. A funeral service will be held at the Warchol Funeral Home on Friday, September 16 at 11:00 AM. Interment private at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers and staff at Celebration Villa for their love and care over the last six months and to the nursing staff at Genesis Bridgeville Rehabilitation & Care Center for their devotion to his comfort and care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association or the Washington City Mission – Crabtree-Kovoacicek Veterans House.
