Dear Mrs. Kalan, Chantel and Stacey:
You all were such a very special part of my childhood and I have a very heavy heart as I write. I am so sorry for your loss. I know Mr. Kalan had fought hard for years.
Some special memories I hold close to my heart: During my fun visits at the Kalan household Mr. & Mrs. Kalan would always play along and were by-far our best customers at Stacey and my fake restaurant. I was a 'lil pipsqueak looking up at a gentle giant (he was sooo tall to me) as I took Mr. Kalan's order for Chef Stacey. Also, Mr. Kalan had such a great stereo set-up in the gameroom and he always helped Stacey and I to get our sleepover party started by providing good music or a movie in-stereo...Mr. Kalan was so "cool". Most importantly, I remember Mr. Kalan's comforting smile and kind heart...which was very important to a kid when she would stay away from her own home. I am so thankful I had the good fortune to foster these memories. I am also thankful that you all have countless happy memories of Mr. Kalan as a husband, father, grandfather and friend. All of my love, deepest sympathy and condolences to you and all who have been touched by Mr. Kalan's beautiful heart.
Sincerely,
Carla Marie Gump

It is a sad day. If you are lucky in life, you meet one of those special people who shows you how the best of us can be. Rich was that person. I met Rich when Bayer was still Mobay. Having known Rich for only a few years, his influence has never left me. His kindness has touched all that has had the privilege to have known him. You have my deepest condolences. “Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened.”. - Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss)

I am so sorry to hear that Rich has passed. Rich was one of the first people I met when I started at Bayer in Building #7 back in 1993. As a recent grad in a new job, I was so nervous but he made me feel very welcome and comfortable. Such a wonderful person who will be missed dearly. May your memories comfort you during this most difficult time. You have my deepest condolences.
