I was a new teacher at Harding School and Esther welcomed me with open arms. She was my son's teacher also, one of his favorites. I was sorry to see her move. She was a good friend. My Love and Prayers to you two children, the loves of her life. Marlee (Gilcrest) Penebaker and son, Johnny Gilcrest

Mrs. Brown was my home room teacher, as well as my 7th grade math teacher at Harding Jr. High. She was also my cheering advisor. What a great teacher she was! She made PreAlgebra fun. However, we could always get her off topic if we asked her about her kids, especially Mike’s track accomplishments! She loved sharing stories about her family, and we loved getting out of work! So glad to read that she lived a long, full, life after retirement. Rest In Peace, Mrs. Brown.

So very sorry to read of Mrs. Brown’s passing! She was my 7th grade math teacher at Harding School. The next time our paths crossed was as peers. I became an elementary teacher and came back to Steubenville after college and began subbing in the Steubenville City Schools. My first full-time position was at Buena Vista, teaching 4th Grade with your mother. Our rooms were across the hall from each other. I remember her saying to me after the first few weeks, “Pam, we are now peers, please call me Esther.” My reply was,” Mrs. Brown, I would love to, but I can’t. It’s going to always be Mrs. Brown.” She just laughed. What a wonderful woman. My sincere sympathy to all of you. May she Rest In Peace!

I am so sorry to hear about Mrs. Brown’s passing. I had her for math when I was in the 7th grade. I used to go with her sometimes to watch Michael run. She was such a sweet lady and made my 7th grade year at Harding fun. Please accept my condolences. Sincerely, Shari Lamberti Voltz

So sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. It is hard to pick a particular memory with all the years as neighbors in McCauslen Manor. I guess I think of your mother coming over to our house to see my mother after working all day. Amy Fontaine

I remember Mrs.Brown as a good teacher at Harding Jr High School during my years of 1973-75. She attended our league championship track meet against Grant Jr High and offered our team and me congratulations on our victory that year. I offer my sincere condolences to the Brown family for your loss. Dave Iachini HJHS 1975
