Obituary of Joseph Michael Hans, Jr.
Joseph “Joe” Michael Hans Jr., 89, passed away on May 22, 2021. Joe was born on October 28th, 1931 in Bellaire, Ohio. Joe was an ARMY Veteran and graduated from West Liberty State College in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and later received his Master of Science Degree in Nuclear Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology in 1966. He later joined the United States Public Health Service and began his career in Atlanta, Georgia. Joe’s assignment in Atlanta was interrupted to allow his participation in Joint Task Force 8’s weapons testing in the South Pacific. Joe later was assigned to the Public Health Service Southwestern Radiological Health Laboratory in Las Vegas, Nevada where he took on many duties. He later retired in 1987.
Joe married Shirley Ann Becker on August 24th, 1957 during his junior year at West Liberty State College. Together, they moved to several areas in the US, but ultimately made their home in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1965.
Joe is preceded in death by his grandson Dylan Atwood, brother, Norman Hans and his wife Maureen. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Becker Hans, brothers, Bill Hans and Donna, Greg Hans and Valerie, Sister Glenna Horsberg, son Joe and Annette Hans, Daughter Tracy, and Keith Andersen. Also survived by three grandchildren, Carlee Hans, Kirstie Hans, Hailey and Erick Forbush and his great granddaughter, Macyn and many other nieces and nephews.
The Hans family would like to thank the staff at Davis Funeral Home, Warchol Funeral Home, TLC and Nathan Adelson Hospice for their care and help during this difficult time.
Joseph Hans Jr. will be laid to rest on Friday, June 4th at 12:30 PM at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies; 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville, PA 15017.
A gathering of family will occur Friday, June 4th at 11 AM at Warchol Funeral Home; 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, Pennsylvania . USA 15017.
