I always made a point of going to see Gram as much as possible, especially after having Trenton. A Great Grandson is quite an accomplishment in life, and being able to see that tiny person grow before your eyes is something that goes by extremely fast for Moms alike, but it goes extremely fast when you have had the opportunity to watch generations of family grow and develop before your eyes.
I would pack up my car with blocks, toys, and books, and would spend an hour of two together, making 'Katie Eggs' and toast while she would sit on the couch and just admire him playing with his toys and talking non stop about everything. Occasionally I would see her eyes fill with happy tears, as she would tell me 'Oh Jenny, you are such a wonderful mother and you are doing such a great job'. Those words I held close to my heart, because mothering a young child has its ups and downs, but when I needed to hear it the most, she always let me know how good I was doing, and how it showed through Trent's interactions. She would always leave her apartment door open, in hopes that someone would walk by and say hello so she could show off her great grandson. Then because of that door being open, Trent would always want to run the halls of her apartment complex, go up the steps and occasionally take the elevator to the special room upstairs (the party room). I'm so thankful that I took this time to instill these memories within Trent. The joy on her face (and Trent and myself) capture the feelings perfectly. She was a proud and strong Mom, Gram and Great Jam, and we are so fortunate to have these memories with her.
