Obituary of Mary Jean Baird

Mary Jean (Gallas) Baird, 90, of Coraopolis, passed away on July 8, 2020. She was born March 12, 1930 in Pittsburgh, the beloved daughter of Fred J. and Alberta (Smolder) Gallas. Jean was predeceased by her parents, her infant son Victor William Baird, and a very special aunt, Irene Smolder, who was like a second mother to her in many ways. She is survived by sister Audrey Maycheck and many nieces and nephews. Good-natured and vivacious, Jean made the most of life. She treasured many dear friends with whom she delighted in sharing travel experiences and other adventures. A gifted singer, she loved participating in choirs and ensembles throughout her life. She was a devoted aunt, and her family knew she would bring fun and laughter to any occasion. Jean retired from Pittsburgh Port Authority Transit, following a long career in customer service and logistics. Prior to that she served as an administrative assistant for a number of Pittsburgh companies. There will be no viewing due to the pandemic. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 17 at 10 am, at Holy Child Church in Bridgeville. Interment will be at St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery in Carrick.
