Victor and Shaun and I worked together 'til the mid 80s. We went on our separate paths until I retired in '05.
Funny, you look back and you think of favorite people you knew and with whom you might want to reconnect in retirement. Aha! Victor was one of my top picks! And so, in '05 with Shaun, a robust three-some friendship resumed like it never had never stopped in the first place.
Victor had stories and still more stories -- about growing up and the family tavern, being in the Army, working for the govt. and the company for which we all worked. stories about his family, and his studied effort to out-think the casinos. Everyone has some kind of 'brilliance' and Victor's was, well, uniquely Victor.
On the last occasion of seeing Victor, he met for dinner with Shaun and me and several other car guys that Victor did not know (Victor was a card guy, bit a car guy) who were attending a car expo in Carlisle, Pa. Worried as I was that we would bore Vic with car talk and that he would be an outsider, Vic ended up being the center of attention - and entertainment - with everyone laughing and chuckling as we paid our bill and bid adieu for the evening.
Adieu to you Victor, you dear man and treasured friend. And to all of you in Victor's family - I feel your pain in no longer having Victor physically present in your lives - yet I am confident that you will take pleasure in having him in spirit with you every day of your lives ahead and will cherish the influence that his character has on each of you.

We worked together years ago in the printing industry and continued our friendship over the years when we met every year to reminisce about our time together in the industry as well as laugh and have a good time overall. I will always look fondly upon those times as well having had Victor as a friend. Victor will be missed.
Attached are a few photos from those meetings.

Deeply saddened to hear that Vic has passed. Always a twinkle in his eye, followed by good story. But what we will remember & miss most was his genuine kindness. Our heartfelt condolences to Vickie & the Hajduk family.

We lost a wonderful neighbor and a good person this week. Our lives were enriched by our many interactions with Victor. We shared our first name and he always referred to me as the “other” Victor. Both Victor and I are blessed with beautiful, loving, sweet, caring brides......and we both knew it......Vickie......and are blessed. We hope that the good memories and wonderful experiences will, over time, mitigate the grief of this loss for all of Victor’s friends and family.
Love,
Victor and Noreen Bertoty

We would like to extend our condolences to Vickie and the family upon the passing of our dear friend, Victor Hajduk. We will greatly miss Victor's generosity of spirit and self-deprecating humor. Whenever we were with Vic and Vickie, we had a great time. Whether we were going to Kennywood or Harrisburg or the Oglebay Christmas lights or even the casino, we always laughed and had fun. We laughed more at the casino when we were winning.
We have lost our South Side/South Fayette buddy. Victor will always be remembered as someone who knew how to be a good friend. May his soul rest in peace.
