I miss his voice. I would do anything to see a video of him speaking.
He was a good friend. I worked with him at Bryan Adams for many years. He was a wonderful, funny, entertaining, man with a heart of gold.
I called him a couple days before the news - I hope he heard my voice mail.
What a character. The world is not the same without his joy and laughter.

To all of Dave’s family - we were so very sorry to hear about Dave. Such a wonderful person-glad we got to know him. I know there is probably a big hole in your hearts, fill it with memories of him. Sorry we couldn’t come to the funeral home, but walking is so hard for us. Will see you at the service tomorrow. Judy and Chuck

My sincere condolences to your family. I will always remember Cheesebrough and his wonderful sense of humor. I can still hear his voice yelling words of encouragement to the Iowa State freshman football players running laps around the track . . . . “YOU’RE NOT GOING TO MAKE IT!!!” Cheese was an original and will be missed!

Cheese was my Linebacker Coach at USD. To his family, we send our thoughts and prayers from YOTE NATION. There are so many fond memories of Cheese not only as a coach, but later as a friend. He would give you the shirt off his back or help in any way he could if you asked him. One of his great loves in Sports besides the YOTES was the Cyclones and the Pittsburg Steelers and whatever baseball taem Kyle was involved with. We visited on many a Saturday and Sunday about how good of a day it was or what we would have done if we were coaching. For all of his teammates at ISU and the reunion you had, it was all he talked about for quite awhile, he truly loved you guys!!! When he came to the YOTES reunion it was his older, but as he said better version of himself. He was in his old glory the entire weekend loud, towel around his neck and just being "Cheese" that we all loved and enjoyed being around.
There are so many stories of this "players coach", I'm not sure where to begin. He was a GA starting my Sophmore year and then became a fulltime coach the following year. One story I can tell you is this. It was two a days and we were done with parctice and we were heading to the Student Union to grab lunch. I caught a ride with Jim Sulentic and we went through the line and ate. When we got finished Cheese came over to our table. He said you two come with me. We both looked at each other, like holy crap, he is serious and looked maybe a little bit upset. So we proceeded to go outside with him. He said, Hood and Jimmy see that bike overthere, it mistakenly got left there from the Dome and needs to be returned. We said how do you know it was mistenkenly left there from the Dome? Cheese said, I rode it over here, you can't expect these knees to walk that far. He said, get that bike returned pronto to the Dome. We did and each noon meal for the rest of fall camp. He later got a bike of his own, at least we think it was his!!! RIP Coach, Love you! Tim Hood Captain and Linebacker for the 1986 Team.

I am so sorry for your loss. Coach Cheese was an amazing coach and even a better guy. You can just imagine how much guff I got just being a kicker on his team at USD. He always had a genuine smile, a kind heart, and meant well for everyone he coached. I will never forget a belly flop he did in the Dakota Dome pool with players cheering him on during two-a-days to lighten the mood on a blistering hot day. I also remember times many players first started wearing an earring in one ear and I can still hear him saying "Don't go half way! If you are going to wear 1 earing, get another one and wear both but don't go half way!" He was a great coach, a great guy, and I was fortunate to be around him. He made a difference in my life and those who spent time with him.

Dave was an exceptional coach and colleague. Who could forget that guy with the loud gravily voice and the signature white towel around the neck. Cheese was a great friend and mentor, we'll never forget him!

To Coach Cheesebrough's family, "Coach Cheese" was my college football coach at the University of South Dakota and it was an honor to play for him. I've got to many funny stories to tell in this short space but be assured they are memories that will last a lifetime. Coach was always there to encourage you albeit sometimes with a few choice words but you always knew he was just trying to get the most out you. I always knew that regardless of that tough outside persona inside was a great man who would give you the shirt off his back. Please know that your dad had a tremendous positive impact on a lot of people and will be sorely missed by many.
God Bless

Our prayers are with the family at this time of great loss.
Cheese was my teammate at Iowa State and my friend. We were in the same recruiting class of 1974. He was part of the Earle Bruce era at ISU, which is one of the most successful periods in ISU football history. Cheese was one of the most memorable players of this time. His contributions on and off field were unmatched. His magnetic, charismatic, and humorous personality was infectious. Everyone loved Cheese as a friend and teammate and he had the respect of the coaching staff, players and training staff alike. I will always remember his often tongue in cheek bravado with a smile. Anyone who knew Cheese knew he loved and lived Life to the fullest.
A piece of me passed with Cheese. He made me a better player and certainly a better person. RIP Cheese. We will be teammates again someday. I love you buddy!
