Obituary of Donald A. Mahoney
Age 86, of Upper St. Clair, formerly of Knoxville, on February 8, 2019. Born October 17, 1932 to the late Margaret (Dilla) and Thomas Mahoney. Beloved husband of the late Kathryn (Knerr) Mahoney for 59 years; loving father of William (Joyce) and Timothy (Sandy) Mahoney; brother of the late Margaret (Lee) Vankirk and Regis (Maryanne) Walter (Carol), Charles and Jimmy (Sheryl) Mahoney; cherished grandfather of Michael (Susan) Mahoney, Jennifer (Justin) Bular, Heather Mahoney and Trevor Mahoney and great grandfather of Liam and Aubrey; brother in law to Julianne Zulla (Knerr) and Ralph Zulla and loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Donald was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a Master Plumber and worked for Allegheny County Health Department for 30 years as a Plumbing Inspector and Supervisor. He was a school coordinator and instructor for AMPAC Plumbing Apprenticeship School for 30 years and a Commander of Brookline American Legion, Post #540. He spent 30 years coaching football and 40 years as an usher at Our Lady of Grace Parish. He coached baseball for the Upper St. Clair Athletic Association for 25 years and played for multiple softball teams until the age of 75. Donald was also a member of the Dormont AARP and acted as Santa Claus for the South Hills Woman’s Club for over 20 years. Family and friends received on Sunday from 6-8 PM and Monday from 3-8 PM at the Warchol Funeral Home Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412.221.3333).
