Obituary of Virginia E. Land

Age 92, of Bridgeville, on December 7, 2013. Beloved wife of the late William G. Land; cherished sister of Joan M. (Richard) McConnell, of Clinton, Carole (Harry) Johnston, of Bethel Park and the late Charles W. “Shorty” Lutz; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Virginia graduated from the Oakdale High School in 1938. She attended Business Training College for two years. Upon graduation, she became a legal secretary for Barnett/Hoffman Law Firm in Pittsburgh, where she worked for 57 years. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeville for over 60 years, and a member of Bridgeville Life Span Senior Citizen Center. This Christmas season we will remember Virginia as we enjoy the beautiful ornaments and decorations given to our families and her friends over the years. Our homes are adorned with cozy afghans she designed and knitted for warmth. For the past three years Virginia has resided at Country Meadows Retirement Community in Bridgeville and was very socially active. She loved crafts, working puzzles and designing potato bead necklaces. Virginia was blessed with a full life, a sharp mind and with creative hands that were always busy. She leaves a legacy of courage and determination regarding her recent health. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6-8 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Warchol Funeral Home Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333), where a service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Robinson Run Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeville. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 6-8 PM and Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Warchol Funeral Home Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333), where a service will be held on Thursday at 10 AM. Interment to follow at Robinson Run Cemetery.
