Obituary of Zack J. D'Alesandro

D'ALESANDRO JR., Zack J. Age 87, of Scott Twp., on June 14, 2013. Beloved husband for 56 years of the late Pearl M. D'Alesandro; loving father of Zachary III (Debbie), Michael (Shawn), Christian (Rene), Vincent (Nicole) and the late Anthony and his wife Michele, who survives; grandfather of Paul-Michael, Jessica (Eric), Brittany, Michael Jr., Briana, Zach, Alec, Gabrielle, Ava and Taylor; great grandfather of Rylee and Jaxson; preceded in death by his wife, Pearl; his son, Anthony; and his brothers Orlando and Raymond. Zack received both Bachelor and Master Degrees in Education from Duquesne University and a Master Degree in Mathematical Sciences from Holy Cross College and University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity at Duquesne. As an educator, Zack taught mathematics and coached sports at South Fayette and Carnegie High Schools. Zack was an assistant principal at Carlynton High School. He also served on the Chartiers Valley District School Board for 20 years, the Scott Twp. Planning Commission for 12 years and the Bower Hill Civic League for 10 years. Zack enjoyed a second career as the General Manager of the Gateway Clipper Fleet from 1971 through 2009 and was instrumental in the development of the rivers in Pittsburgh as an entertainment source for western Pennsylvania and surrounding areas. Zack spent many years as a member and president of National Association of Passenger Vessel Owners receiving recognition in the Congressional Record for his efforts and dedication to the industry and the City of Pittsburgh. Zack"s hobbies included being an avid golfer, refereeing for college football, hunting and listening to jazz music. His greatest passion however, was spending time with his 5 sons and many grandchildren. Zack was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army, 542nd Parachute Infantry Battalion, a member of the American Legion Post #290 and Italian-American Veterans Post #12, the Knights of Columbus in Bridgeville, PA and parishioner at Our Lady of Grace Parish in Scott Twp. Friends received Thursday, 7-9 and Friday, 2-4 & 7-9 PM, in the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, 10 AM, in Our Lady of Grace Church, Scott Twp.
