Margaret L. (Cullighan) Gagliardino Obituary
Age 84, of Bridgeville, peacefully passed away on March 29, 2026. Beloved wife for 58 years of William P. Gagliardino; loving mother of William J. (Lauren) Gagliardino, Joe (Noelle) Gagliardino, Karen M. (Lucas) Shelly, and Thomas Gagliardino; cherished grandmother of Anna (Joe) Petrillo, Marget Shelly, Maura Gagliardino, Rece Shelly, Cecelia Gagliardino, Nicholas Shelly, Gabriella Gagliardino, Will Gagliardino, Natalie Shelly, and Vivian Gagliardino; great-grandmother of Paul Petrillo; preceded in death by her loving parents, Leo and June Cullighan; survived by her siblings, June (late Bill) Varley, Timothy (Jan) Cullighan, Patricia (late Darryl) Lorenz, Mary (Dan) Wyse, Lois (Mike) Halligan, and Kathy (Mike) Fecik; sister-in-law of the late Linda ( late James) Lowen; and many nieces and nephews. Marge grew up in the Hill District section of Pittsburgh. She graduated from St. Paul’s Cathedral High School in 1959. She then attended Duquesne University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1963. She went on to teach English and Language Arts for the City of Pittsburgh School District. In 1967 Marge put her teaching career on hold to marry Bill and raise her family in Bridgeville. In 1981, she went back to teaching, this time at St. Agatha Catholic School in Bridgeville. For the next 23 years Marge taught 6th, 7th and 8th grade language arts, organized and directed the annual school plays, and coached her students through the early rounds of the Scripps Howard Spelling Bee. She retired from St. Agatha’s in 2004 to enjoy her time with Bill. She used her retirement years to travel the world, take ocean cruises and enjoy her family and friends. From the time Marge married Bill, there were annual trips to her favorite beachside town, Stone Harbor, NJ. Every year, she spent two weeks (sometimes three) at “the Harbor” with friends and family, enjoying the beach, the town and being with the people she loved. Dinner and drinks with Carol (late Bud) Scharf were especially treasured. Marge was an avid bridge player with bi-weekly Wednesday night games with her close friends. Later, to keep active, she joined a bowling league with her sisters and she could always be seen with a crossword puzzle nearby. She was a cancer survivor who fought a long and courageous battle. For over a dozen years, she walked in the “Race for the Cure” in Schenley Park every Mother’s Day, along with her sisters and family, always enjoying a fantastic Mother’s Day brunch after the walk. Despite her health issues, Marge always managed to have a smile and kind word for all who knew or met her. Friends will be received on Tuesday, April 7, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, at Holy Child Church (formerly, St. Agatha Catholic Church) of Corpus Christi Parish, Bridgeville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
