Elizabeth Russell Board, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026. Known affectionately as “Beji,” she was the sister of Chester Stephen Board; beloved aunt of Perry Board and Mary Wyers; daughter of the late Chester Charles Board and Edith Russell; and a cherished cousin to many. Elizabeth also had many dear friends who will miss her deeply.
Born in Charleston, West Virginia, she grew up in Dunbar and later studied business at West Virginia University. With a characteristic sense of independence and curiosity, Elizabeth decided to move to Pittsburgh—finding her first job by opening the phone book and starting with the letter “A.” She began her career at Alcoa Corporation and went on to make Pittsburgh her home for many years.
Elizabeth had a deep appreciation for history, the arts, and community life. She enjoyed exploring the Pittsburgh area, cheering for the Steelers, and was a member and regular attendee of Christ Church in Bethel Park. She especially treasured her annual visits to the Chautauqua Institution in New York, which brought her great joy and inspiration over many years.
In quieter moments, Elizabeth loved gardening, cooking, playing games, and spending time socializing with friends. She will be remembered for her warmth, her curiosity about the world, her sense of humor, and the steady friendships she nurtured throughout her life.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 12 at 2pm, at Christ Church, 44 Highland Rd, Bethel Park, followed by a reception at the church.
