Arthur John Gresh, 95, formerly of Lancaster Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 11 at Friendship Village in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He was proceeded in death by his wife, Kay Jean Gresh, with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage last year. He was anxious to see her again.
He was born blue, May 21, 1930, in his grandparents’ home in Almaden Pennsylvania, the son of John and Katherine Gresh, brother to the late Ann Terral. Art was a 1948 graduate of Ambridge High School. He enlisted in the Air Force and worked as a tool and die maker before making his mark as a manufacturer’s representative servicing the paper and converting industries. At one point in time Art knew every route and every town in the territory he serviced, and which towns had the best diners. He had a passion for knowledge and was an avid reader. He could add to any topic and would often say “I recently read an article in the Wall Street Journal” before carrying on at length with great detail and recall up until the day he passed away. Art was formerly a member at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Lititz Pennsylvania. He enjoyed traveling with his family and spending time with his four grandchildren. Whether he was reading them a book or cooking scrambled eggs to order, wet for some, slightly burnt for others, he put his love into it and made it special.
Arthur is survived by his two sons: Arthur J. Gresh Jr and wife Judith, of Seattle, Washington; John S. Gresh and wife Kari, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and his four grandchildren: Anna, Maxwell, Csilla, and Zsofia. Art was a devoted father, grandad, uncle, and father-in-law. In his early years he was fiery, but deep down he was a big softy. He taught us a lot of life lessons for which we are eternally grateful. As his wife Kay would say “Art doesn’t suffer from stress, he’s just a carrier.” We will miss him.
