Christian James Gertz, beloved son of Stephen and Ann Gertz; loving brother of Luke, Ollie, and Gwennie; and cherished grandson of Joe (Dorene) Gertz and the late Sharon Gertz, and Steve and Janice Lydick, finished his race early and went to be with our Father in Heaven. Christian was a devoted son, a loving brother, and a source of encouragement to those around him. He was a junior at South Fayette High School, a member of the National Honor Society, and a state competition qualifier for the Technology Student Association (TSA). Christian also achieved the rank of 1st degree black belt in Tang Soo Do at Nam’s Martial Arts Center, worked at The Steeping Leaf tea bistro on the weekend, and volunteered with the Harvest Street Mission.
Luke loved playing Super Smash Brothers Ultimate with Christian. He will miss their conversations that ranged from funny things on the internet to their future aspirations. Ollie admired that Christian did the right thing when no one was watching. He will miss building Legos and playing ping-pong together. Gwennie cherished that Christian looked forward to building worlds together in Minecraft. She will miss him helping with her homework and making her snacks after school.
Christian loved the holidays and decorating for all seasons. He found joy in the smallest things and had a blast playing board games with his family. Above all, Christian treasured relationships, consistently putting others before himself.
The Lord will bridge the gap Christian left, covering us in His love and grace in Christian’s absence. He will always be our sweet, sweet son who knew he was loved, and we will again embrace him in Heaven when we are called home to be with our God and with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
