Louis S. Nowasielski Obituary

With deep sadness but abiding hope in the promises of Christ, I announce the passing of my beloved husband, Rev. Dr. Louis S. Nowasielski. He was a devoted husband, faithful servant of the gospel, and scholar of the Word. Lou was born on August 19, 1945, and was called home to his Lord and Savior at the age of 80. Meeting later in life, we had 15 wonderful years, and shared a life rich in love, laughter and unforgettable memories--from sunny trips to Aruba to cheering on the Dodgers with friends and spending nice walks on the Montour Trail by South Park with our loyal pup, Matty.

Throughout his remarkable life, Lou was many things--a reverend, a doctor of theology, a professor, a mentor and a tireless ambassador for the gospel of Jesus Christ. He served faithfully as Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs at Faith Theological Seminary in the 1990s, where he helped shape the next generation of Christian leaders. With a passion for sound doctrine and apologetics, Lou taught courses that challenged and inspired countless students across decades of ministry and academia.

He was also the proud co-founder of Asian Christian Ministries, alongside his beloved and faithful friend, the late Rev. Dr. Emanuel Nasir. Together, they pursued a bold mission: to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to unreached Asian communities across North America. This work reflected Lou's deep heart for missions and his unwavering commitment to the Great Commission.

A lifelong learner, Lou earned five academic degrees, a testament to his relentless pursuit of wisdom and truth. Yet, his greatest joy was not in titles or accomplishments but in teaching and preaching God's Word. Lou was a deeply involved member at Bethany Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, sang in the choir and led Bible Study. He was respected and loved by the congregation for his biblical knowledge, pastoral heart and warm presence.

Lou worked for 25 years at Boeing in the IT Department and worked as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor in the Philadelphia prisons.

Lou proudly served our nation in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1969, both on active duty and in the reserves. He served during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Zellars, a chapter of his life he held with deep pride and patriotism.

Lou leaves behind a beautiful legacy of resiliency and self-reliance with his children who will continue to impact their families and communities. Lou is also survived by his current wife Karen Harkins, his former wife, Susan Nowasielski, the mother of his five children. Jonathan Nowasielski (wife Jessica), Jeremy Newhouse (wife Jessie), Rachel Thompson (husband Jamie), Rebekah Magdycz (husband Scott). Lou leaves behind 12 grandchildren. Lou is also survived by his brother Dominic Boyle and his wife Rosemary; Brother-in-law James Reino, cousin Barbara Grzybowski, and a number of cherished nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Reino and also his son Jimmy, whom Lou longed to reunite with in the presence of the Lord.

Lou will be missed by many, but has struggled for years with health issues, and his fight is over. Praise God for all the blessings he has received in his life.

Lou was always filled with hope while reading this passage:

1 Thesselonians 4:13

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died, so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have died. For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those who have died. For the Lord himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel's call and with the sound of God's trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Family and friends received on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Warchol Funeral Home Inc. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11:30 AM at Bethany Presbyterian Church. Interment to follow with military honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church.
