Gladys Evelyn (Ladley) Chappel, age 102, formerly of Upper St. Clair, passed away on August 26, 2025. Gladys was born on December 23, 1922 in Slickville, PA to the late Anna (Umbaugh) Ladley and Nevin Ladley.
Beloved wife of the late Howard “Hud” W. Chappel. Preceded in death by
her son Leslie H. Chappel and her infant daughter Donna Louise Chappel.
Also by her siblings Alma Goldberg, Roberta Ramous and William Ladley.
Loving mother to Kathryn Kunde, Donna (Mark) Wik, William (Sandy) Chappel, and Deborah (Jeff) Kaucic, and adored Gramma to her nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sister Aileen Seik and many dear nieces and nephews.
Gladys was a member of the First Christian Church of Carnegie for 84 years.
She worked for Pati-Petite Cookies 25+ years.
Gladys found great pleasure in gardening and sharing her flowers and plants with family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her family. Hosting summer picnics and holiday dinners were always something she enjoyed.
The family would like to thank the aides at Celebration Villa of Bridgeville and the nurses and aides from Bridges Hospice for the care, compassion and love they gave to our mother.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to St. Jude’s, Phipps Conservatory, Pittsburgh Botanic Garden or Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. Friends received Tuesday, 3-7 pm, at the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, where a service will be held Wednesday at 11 am.
