Nancy Ruth Belack Obituary

Age 86, of Scott Twp., formerly of Upper St. Clair, passed away on August 19, 2025. Loving Wife of 65 years to Jim Belack, Nancy was the youngest child of Robert and Ruth O’Hara; sister of Bob, Ruth, Isabel and Margie. Born and raised in Crafton, PA and a graduate of Crafton High school. Nancy worked at the CPA firm of Deloitte where she met Jim and married on October 15, 1960. They raised a beautiful family of 5 boys, Dr. David (Diane), Michael (Leslie), Daniel (Linda), Jeffrey (Kelly), and Kevin (Kathleen). Nancy was blessed to have 18 grandchildren - Andrew, Christopher and Francesca; Kyle (Grace), Leah, and Keith; Melissa (Russ), Matthew (Abby) and Nathan; Jimmy, Kayla, Olivia, Jeffrey, Angela and Jack; Rachel, Lauren (Max), Alexander (Siobahn). 4 great grandchildren round out Nancy’s legacy. Nancy passed away peacefully Tuesday the day after she attended her favorite bible study at home surrounded by Jim and her 5 boys.

Nancy dedicated her life to Jesus with a daily morning prayer routine that included family both living and deceased and many friends with many prayer cards. Nancy and Jim led a life of Love, Leadership and Laughter. From her first home in Scott Twp., until she moved to Duluth in the winter of 1966. The snow was 4’deep and electricity went out the next day. She made friends, organized church discussions and social groups. The winters were severe and required her constant attention to protect the boys from snowbanks and frost bite.

In 1969, Nancy and Jim moved to Madison N. J. and Nancy always maintained that New York was her favorite town. Seven new homes in a beautiful cul de sac gave Nancy the opportunity to bring the community together with parties and fellowship. St Patrick’s was the new parish and Nancy worked as secretary for the CCD coordinator she and Jim headed in the parish renewal efforts. The boys were in grade school when US Steel transferred Jim and Nancy to Pittsburgh in 1974.

The new home in Pittsburgh, PA (Upper St. Clair) was a return to family, roots and friends. She became the family leader, organizing parties with the Belack, O’Hara and Flanagan families. The largest being the July 4th 1976 Bicentennial. She brought her brother Bob back into the Catholic faith and initiated his induction into the Hall of Valor at Soldiers and Sailors Hall for courage in World War II. She served on the homeowner’s board and led many socials in Montclair. She volunteered in a program to fly children needing surgery from island homes to stateside shelters and back. Back in Pittsburgh, Nancy attended Community College and received an associate degree while her boys were also graduating from schools. She worked part time as a secretary. Her new church, St. John Capistran, became her focal point for worship and evangelization. She led the refugee program for two generations of Bosnians seeing them through to citizenship. Nancy worked with the CCD director, became pastoral counsel coordinator and formed the evangelization social and outreach programs. She and her husband received the prestigious Manifesting God’s Kingdom award in 2013.

Above all, Nancy adored her Five Boys, their wonderful wives, her 18 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. Nancy always provided them with guidance, support and prayer. She loved them dearly and kept in touch through the ever-expanding messaging apps. Storytelling and a massive memory bank kept their attention. Her gift of communication demanded attention and respect. The smallest of details could fill books of memories. Their home in Montclair was the epicenter of their lives until Jim and Nancy downsized in 2012 and moved to Scott Township, only one mile from her first home, where the 5 boys were born. Not far from the church that Nancy and Jim loved dearly. Nancy could remember all of those in their faith community throughout the years, and they were all special, from Father Harcarik to Father Reardon to Father O’Toole and much love to Father Jim Chepponis; they were proud to call Bishop Zubik a dear friend and now Bishop Mark. Friends received Sunday, August 24, from 2-6 pm, at the Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville (412-221-3333). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, August 25, at 10 am, at St. John Capistran Church of Resurrection Parish (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Deacon Matthew Selzer, 5400 Roland Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21210.
