Eileen H. Fox Obituary

Eileen H. Fox

March 30, 1931 – July 15, 2025

Eileen H. Fox passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025, in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, at the age of 94. Born Eileen Agnes Hillman on March 30, 1931, in Pittsburgh, her family residence was on Dell Avenue in Dormont, a neighboring area of Mt. Lebanon PA.

Eileen was the beloved daughter of Edgar Charles Hillman and Grace A. Hillman (Davis), and the cherished sister of Claire Louise Smith (Hillman). Her mother chose the name “Eileen” because it couldn’t be shortened—but that didn’t stop friends from giving her nicknames like “Aggie” in grade school and “Hilly” in high school.

Eileen graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1948 and went on to attend Bethany College in West Virginia. After college, she began her career as a switchboard operator for the Mt. Lebanon Police Department, later attending night school to master shorthand. That hard work led to a successful and fulfilling career as an executive secretary at U.S. Steel.

On May 4, 1963, Eileen married the love of her life, George L. Fox. Together, they shared 51 beautiful years as husband and wife, partners in every sense of the word. In 1982, they retired to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where they joined the Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church and became active members of their community. Eileen loved gardening and was a proud member of the Yaupon Garden Club. She also enjoyed her knitting circle, bridge games, and long chats with dear friends.

But it was the adventures shared with George that brought her the most joy. They were avid boaters, golfers, and cruisers—members of the Long Bay Power Squadron and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, where Eileen even taught boating classes while George served as Commander. The two also belonged to the Bay Tree Golf Plantation and the Surf Golf and Beach Club.

Together, they sailed on 52 ocean cruises around the world. Eileen was especially proud of her two hole-in-ones, though she was quick to joke, “The only bad thing about those hole-in-ones was I had to buy drinks for the whole club—twice!”

Eileen’s life was marked by love, laughter, service, and spirit. She brought joy to every room she entered and never shied from an adventure, a glass of wine— or a card game. Her legacy is one of devotion, strength, and grace.

Eileen’s ashes will be laid to rest beside George at Greenfield Cemetery in Ohio. As she rejoins him, we know they’re already planning their next voyage together.

From ALL who love you Eileen, Fair winds and following seas.
