John P. Sweeney Obituary

Sweeney, John P, aged 63 of Mt. Lebanon, PA, died July 14, 2025.

Beloved son of Mary Cochran Sweeney and the late William P Sweeney, and devoted father to Anna Taylor, he is also survived by his sisters Ann Sweeney, Beth Athol and Margaret West. He will be missed by nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.

A proud graduate and active alumnus of Carnegie Mellon University and graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Katz School of Business, John was a nationally recognized leader and innovator in the graphic arts and color technology industry for nearly 40 years, serving in several executive roles. A commissioned Army officer through ROTC, he also served in the National Guard early in his career.

John enjoyed lifelong bonds of friendship, fellowship and service through the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, St. Paul’s Church, Sons of the American Revolution, and Scouts of America. He enthusiastically volunteered for causes and festivals all over Pittsburgh including the Vintage Gran Prix, Carnival, Irish Folk, food banks and other charities. He is remembered for having been a smart, funny, fun, loving, faithful, loyal, generous, and good man who worked hard and played hard.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday August 27, 2025, 10:30 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Mt Lebanon. A church reception and Celebration of Life post party will follow. Arrangements entrusted to the Warchol Funeral Home Inc. (412.221.3333).
