Obituary of Bernardo Joseph Marrese

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bernardo Marrese, age 58, on May 31, 2025. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Lisa A. Marrese, and children, Dimitri, Tiana, Amara and Mattea Marrese. He was a devoted son of Maria and the late Giuseppe Marrese, brother of Sandro (Diana) Marrese and Elena Marrese, and family member to many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Bernie (Nando) worked at U.S. Steel, where he was a senior engineering project manager. Outside of his career, he was foremost a husband and father, always putting his wife and children first. He loved a good family dinner followed by a long car ride to get ice cream. Bernardo was very proud of his children’s accomplishments, bragging to anyone that would listen. He supported his children in every way possible, including volunteering as a lifetime hockey coach for their teams (as well as being their #1 fan). When he wasn’t helping immediate family, he was known as the community “handyman,” answering any fix-it requests from close friends and neighbors. In the little time he took for himself, he enjoyed watching documentaries and was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins fan. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations to celebrate and carry on the legacy of Bernardo (Nando). Our family has established a memorial fund with all proceeds donated to West Niagara Minor Hockey. These funds will support the ongoing betterment of the association and provide financial assistance to players in need, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to play the game that he so deeply loved.
