Obituary of Barry Frederick Dean

Age 82, passed away on March 12, 2025, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Born on December 2, 1942, in St. Johns MI, Barry was a 1961 graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School, and went on to earn his degree from Michigan State University in 1965. His career included over fi ve decades as the co-owner of Dean True Value Hardware, serving his community with dedication and expertise. After selling the hardware store, he spent ten years in real estate investment and sales. Some of Barry’s accomplishments throughout his many years in St Johns included roles as a city commissioner, a board member on the National Bank Board, a member of the First Congregational Church, and a long time Rotarian. Barry was a proud Spartan alum, having been a football and basketball season ticket holder for over 30 years. His family carries on his enthusiasm for Michigan State sports. Golf played a signifi cant role in Barry’s life. He was a 3 year high school golf team captain, and former Northern Michigan Open champion. His relationships with his dear friends at Clinton County Country Club were very special to him and lasted throughout his entire life. Barry had a very keen competitive spirit that many remember well. Barry spent his retired years splitting time between Venice, Florida and Traverse City, Michigan, before eventually becoming a year round Floridian fi ve years ago. Barry is predeceased by his parents Alan and Ann (Becker) Dean, and his beloved wife, Erica “Ricki” Sheatsley Dean. He is survived by his children, Tracey Casillo of Pittsburgh, PA and Jeff Dean of Traverse City, MI. Also surviving him are his grandsons, Jonathon and James Casillo; sister Barbara Coletta, and nephews, Brant and Spencer Coletta. Barry also leaves behind many dear cousins and long lasting friendships. Barry’s memory will be cherished by those who knew him.
