Obituary of Louis E. Torchia
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Louis Torchia, of Scott Township, who left us on February 8, 2025, at the age of 94. Lou lived a rich and full life, devoted to his family and friends, and his influence on those around him was immeasurable. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Virginia, with whom he shared a profound, enduring love. Together, they built a family rooted in love, and their bond will be forever remembered by all who were fortunate to witness it. Lou was also preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Marie, and his brothers, John (Rose) and Frank (Donna).
He is survived by his loving sons, David (Anita), Richard (Deborah), and James (Beth); his brother, James (late Rosie); grandchildren, Andrew (Breanna), Robert (Stephanie), Angela, Brian, Sarah, Anthony, and Nicholas; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Aiden, and Ella; along with nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Lou proudly served as a Sergeant Tank Gunner in the 140th Tank Battalion, 40th Division, during the Korean War. His military service was a source of immense pride throughout his life, and he often shared stories from those days, which reflected his strength, bravery, and unwavering dedication. One of his favorite traditions in his later years was attending reunion trips with fellow veterans, where they would come together to reminisce, honor their service, and celebrate the friendships that had endured the test of time.
After his service, Lou worked for Equitable Gas for 36 years before retiring. When he wasn't working, Lou could be found bowling or tending to his flourishing vegetable garden, where he enjoyed sharing the bounty of his labor with others. He cherished spending time with his family at the lake house, where he loved to fish in the calm waters of his favorite spots. Lou’s kindness, sense of humor, and wisdom left an indelible mark on everyone he encountered. Though he may have passed on, his legacy continues through the values he imparted, the memories he created, and the love he shared.
Family and friends will be received at the Warchol Funeral Home, 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville, PA 15017, on Wednesday, February 12, from 2 – 4 pm and 6 – 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 13, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Church of St. Michael the Archangel Parish. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. A wake will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for ongoing cancer research in Lou’s honor (https://giving.mskcc.org).
Lou will always be remembered for his deep love of family, his strong spirit, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
