Obituary of Douglas Boyd Coulter
Douglas Boyd Coulter, 83, a long-time resident of Cecil Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2025.
Born June 25, 1941, in Santiago, Pennsylvania, Doug was the fifth child of the late Alfred Alexander and Lucy Boyd Coulter. A proud graduate of Hickory High School, Class of 1959, he went on to serve his country in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1962, then in the Navy Reserves until 1965. He trained as a piping draftsman through General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut, and continued that career path until his partial retirement in 2008. Even after retiring, he remained active, working for Woltz & Wind Ford delivering automotive parts until 2020.
Doug had a deep love for westerns such as The Rifleman and Gunsmoke, as well as films starring Clint Eastwood and John Wayne. When not immersed in westerns, he could be found enjoying game shows, sitcoms, news programs, reality television, and action-packed series. He was an avid car enthusiast, and his cars were always immaculate. He enjoyed all types of music from the 50’s & 60’s classics to ZZ Top, Roy Orbison to country legends like Conway Twitty, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and Buck Owens. Doug also enjoyed board games & going out to eat with his family and anything sweet. His artistic talent, sharp mind, quick wit, and signature humor left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
On March 1, 1963, Doug married Donna Faye (Fowler) Coulter, celebrating 61 years of marriage in 2024.
In addition to his beloved wife, Doug is survived by two of his three children, Michele (Jay) Carlisle of Canonsburg and Douglas (Monica) Coulter of Hoschton, GA; two brothers, Ronald (Bonnie Jean) Coulter of Canonsburg and John (Becky) Coulter of Avella; two sisters, Bonnie Casely of Shepherdstown, WV, and Betsy (Glade) Eakin of Washington. He was a cherished grandfather to Ashley Gates, Tyler (Jeana) Suehr, Alyssa Suehr, Casey Suehr, Rachel (Dawson) Arnold, and Trinity Coulter, and a proud great-grandfather to Cody Suehr, Zachary Gates, Mason Gates, and Aliya Valorie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Rhonda Suehr; his siblings, Sandra Nice, Sally Shrader, and Robert Coulter.
Family and friends will be received at Warchol Funeral Home, Inc., 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville on Sunday, February 9, 2025, from 12:00pm – 2:00 and 4:00 – 6:00pm. A funeral service will be held there on Monday at noon. Interment with full military honors will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Immediately following the service, there will be a celebration of life luncheon.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Wounded Warriors Project or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Doug will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his determination, strength, humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
